Skudai is a fast-developing suburb of Johor Bahru and a part of Iskandar Malaysia, the new growth corridor of southwest Johor, which includes the Senai International Airport, Tanjung Pelepas Port and Bandar Nusajaya, the proposed new administrative capital of Johor. It is located:
- 4 km from Senai;
- 8 km from Kulai; and
- 16 km from Johor Bahru city.

2. Population: Skudai's population is in the region of 200,000. It is home to the headquarters of the Johor Bahru Central Municipal Council, as well as the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia main campus. Many residents in Skudai, just like in many other parts of southern Johor, are from other states in Malaysia, attracted by better employment opportunities and the high exchange rate in neighbouring Singapore. The higher income of these residents have also resulted in higher disposable income, thus spurring the economy of southern Johor.

3. Trivia: Mas Selamat bin Kastari of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist organisation who escaped from Singapore police custody in February 2008 was recaptured in the vicinity of Skudai in April 2009 in the largest manhunt ever launched in Singapore.

- Giant Hypermarket (along the Jalan Skudai);
- Skudai Plaza, which was declared bankrupt because of poor business; and
- Kemayan City, which was abandoned during the economic downturn of the late 1990s. Kemayan City, however, will be refurbished and redeveloped into a contemporary shopping mall, known as B8 Mall, starting in mid-2010.
