2.   Early life: Born at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru, Tunku Ibrahim is the eldest son of Sultan Iskandar by his first wife Josephine Ruby Trevorrow, of English ethnicity from Torquay, England. Trevorrow took on the name of "Kalsom binti Abdullah" for a time, following her marriage to then Tunku Iskandar. She has since remarried and lives in England.[3] Tunku Ibrahim received his early education at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (MSAB) and subsequently underwent military training in the United States at Fort Benning, Georgia and later at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In 1982, then age 23, he married Raja Zarith Sofia, the younger daughter of Sultan Idris Shah II of Perak. Tunku Ibrahim became the regent of Johor between 1984 and 1989, when his father served his term as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. In the 2000s, he gradually took over some of the state duties and functions from his aging father, including attending the 211th Conference of Rulers.

4.   Coronation: Sultan Iskandar passed away on 22 January 2010, and Tunku Ibrahim was installed as the Sultan of Johor the following morning. In February 2010, while still going through the 40-day mourning period, he made his inaugural presence as the new Sultan of Johor at the Conference of Rulers.

5.   Family: Sultan Ibrahim and Sultanah Zarith Sofiah have 5 sons:

  1. Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, who was appointed Tunku Mahkota on 26 January 2010;
