Tiong Nam Logistics Solutions Sdn Bhd is a logistics company, located at Lot 30462, Jalan Kempas Baru, Johor Bahru. As of 2007, it has a fleet of 1,000 trucks and employs 2,000 employees. In view of the lack of skilled manpower in Johor Bahru where most of the locals make Singapore their first choice of work due to the higher income earned from currency exchange, Tiong Nam's ultimate goal is to make Kuala Lumpur its headquarters.

Ong Yoong Nyock

3.   Brief history: Tiong Nam was founded as a small-scale cargo business by Ong Yoong Nyock in 1975. The name "Tiong Nam" was chosen by Ong who initially wanted to focus on the Kuantan – Singapore route. "Tiong Nam" in Hokkien means "East South", referring to Kuantan in the east coast and Singapore in the south. With only RM5,000 in capital, the business could only afford one truck.[1] In 1978, Tiong Nam became an incorporated enterprise. During its first 10 years, its growth was sluggish, due to a lack of capital for fleet expansion, resulting in limited opportunities for business expansion. Banks were then reluctant to offer loans, due to the small company set-up. A branch was set up in Singapore in 1984 to target the Malaysia-Singapore route. This was followed by the lucrative Malaysia-Thailand route. After a sluggish period between 1985-87, due to the global recession, Tiong Nam's logistics business flourished between 1989-92, in tandem with the Malaysian economy. In 1992, the company was listed on the Second Board of Bursa Malaysia (formerly, Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange or KLSE). With increased capital to capitalize on the subsequent economic boom in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, the company experienced its fastest growth to date from 1992-96. Engaging in a strategy of providing total logistics solution, the company now aims to be the leading logistics service provider in the Asia-Pacific region.
